VAC

"There must be more to life than this." Struggling to get the sound right

Sorry I can't upload Freddy Mercury singing,

1.  I've spent (wasted?) hours playing around with two micros, Logitech USB  and non-USB Typhoon. Typhoon sounds great.

I've changed all the variables ion various permutations , but have nothing very final to report.

2.  I decided to delete and reinstall Simple Cast and VAC. That was a MISTAKE! New versions do not work at all, and throw up

This machine has a very different soundcard setup than my previous machine. My default mixer devices include

Or alternatively click here: please to see all the settings used when trying to record both sides of the telephony call in skype.

Now I know how Dracula feels about garlic...

Seeing or hearing the word virtual audio cables is now enough to make me shudder in fear and revulsion.

Deep probing questions for the experts and future plans

In order to complete my internship I must produce three webcasts correct? I have one in the works for this month but the date has yet to be set in stone. I have a plan for a second meeting which will be a forum for the educators from different states who have agreed to work collaboratively with teachers at my school this semester. They don't know about this meeting just yet! The final show, well that remains a mystery. I just know an idea will wander into sight and I'll snare it for the final show. Final is a strong word but without a team I don't think I could keep this up on my own. I think I'll be happy playing backup for wow2 and that's important. I will also be happy to help other new interns.

Happy recording - and webcasting with Simplecast!

Thanks to Bengt - and Jeff - I am up recording in Audacity - and webcasting to Sandbox A and B - with SimpleCast - nice and clean! The first webcast was a talk with Anne Fox in Denmark - yesterday! BUT - a couple of small problems I still have to solve: (who can help?)
1. Using my Logitech AK 5370 - I have problems with the soundlevel. i Audacity is seem to be very low - but Anne told me its HEIGH in SKYPE? She (and the SKYPE-lady) is comming in (too) HIGH i Audacity.
2. How to prepare SAM (its realy a nice program :-) for transmitting from the soundcard and from the USB-MIC - (easy with Simplecast in the Config) - but I dont find where to Config SAM for that?
3. I am testing out how to webcast a live session from my OPAL web-room. Normaly we do all programs ON-LINE with a recording (and convert this to a MP3-file after), but there must be a solution to get this broadcasted via a stream at the same time, I am sure?

A log of my audio oddessy

I spent a good deal of time today experimenting with my audio settings.  A record of what I've done can be found in Google documents and spreadsheets

I used screenshoots to illustrate the settings I used.  If you would like to collaborate on this document just send me your email address and I will invite you to collaborate.  We may actually come up with something useful.

Numerous downloads later...

I don't give up easily but I stubbornly attempt to accomplish tasks without fully comprehending the instructions. So when I tried to get the vac working I ran into a problem. I had Skype on, Audacity up, and vac open. I chose cable 1 in Audacity and compared all the settings. I took a phone call, activated the vac and then pressed record in Adacity. It appeared to be recording but the resulting audio file seemed more like a transmission from another planet. I plan to re-read the directions and try again, but if anyone has already overcome this obsticle, please share your secrets with me and anyone else who may be wondering too.

Can't hear except for the stream...

Ok, I have VAC, Skype, a ShoutCast server, and Simplecast all working well. The only problem I'm running into is that when I configure SimpleCast to pull the audio from the virtual audio cables it does it fine, but I can't hear anything then. If I listen to the stream I can hear it just fine (albeit on a 20 second delay). What am I missing?
