Working with Nicecast/skype/Sandbox
This is an all in one reflection about Nicecast, hijacking, archiving, master gain, using a microphone.
On Sunday with lots of help from Alice and Jeff I was able to webcast in Sandbox B.
Nicecast is a free software, great to use as long as you don't go over 20 minutes. After the 20 min. you get white noise. Also, Nicecast on my older G3 ibook would skip with the stream, the hard drive was just too full and too old. So, today I migrated over to my new Macbook, with dual intel processor. However, Nicecast has some settings that need to be selected, checked and rechecked.
Thanks to Alice for her coaching. Please see Alice's hints for nice cast set up.
Open Nicecast, select the source and choose the microphone, the application, which should be SKYPE. Then Information, just name your show, Quality, 32 is the lowest, 64 is recommended, 44, khz, mono, use about 25% of CPU.
In effects, click and insert 4FX, then finally select application mixer.
That will bring up an application editor.
Make sure that you are close to 100% in the Master Gain area.
You will need to add a server by going to the Window Menu, server selection, you will see a server, but then need to find the plus sign to add the server you will use. You will get the name, address and pword from Dave and Jeff. Leave the account line empty. Oh, don't forget the port.
Then click the check server, to see if it is available for you to use, if it isn't it will tell you who is using it.
OH BIG THING TO CHECK, ON A MAC IN YOUR SYSTEM PREFERENCES LOOK AT THE SOUND AND CHECK OUTPUT AND INPUT AND YOU WILL WANT TO BE SURE YOUR MICROPHONE is selected and volumes are on high, ambient noise is filtered.
Now you are ready to in Nicecast, Start Broadcast, you will see your sound levels. Then in the application editor make sure you click Hijack, that will allow you to record. Finally, go to the Nicecast menu and find Start Archive, that will allow you to save the recording.
Lots of luck!
Cheryl, who for a long time was LOST today. But now I am found.
Oh, now to learn how to upload the short recording for you to enjoy.
