Do you need a master administration tool for Windows volume control?

ZVolume Home 2006 is a nice, powerful replacement to the standard
Windows volume and mute control (freeware).

It can be vastly customized, including changing
its look using skins. It supports hotkeys and command-line parameters
as well as all other functions the standard Windows volume control
supports.

Well week one and already behind.  Not a good start needless to say. Anyway, I am using a MacBook Pro and thought GargageBand would be best bet, but decided to try Audacity since that is what  most of my own students will attempt to use.  I am really kooking forward to suggestions for improvement.

After some frustration with what I thought were setting issues, Lee B helped me out and it turns out my dual 1/8th inch plug headset wasn't going to work for this. I went to the local Radio Shack and ended up with a Logitec 250 USB headset, and things went MUCH smoother! I figured I'd post the settings here that worked, since they are a little different from Lee's screencast since she's using other software.

System prefs : Sound : output and input set to Logitec USB

Mac Settings for recording telephony with Audio Hijack Pro

So, I had trouble following the settings for recording two sides of a telephony call (skype), so once I found settings that worked, I figured I'd post them here for anyone else who might need them. 

 (Using a Logitec 250 USB headset)

System prefs : Sound : output and input set to Logitec USB

Audio Hijack settings : Source type: Skype (it'll restart skype if you have it open)

Skype prefs : output and input set to Logitec USB 

None of this covers the audio specs - I'll be doing editing in Audacity to get those set correctly.

The search for a superb microphone

I want to do some recording  to put online (poems, not mine - other
people's). Although I've got a reasonably expensive microphone
(Logitech USB) and use Audacity for the recording, I'm not really
contented with the results.

The following couple of lines ("All the world's a stage") I've recorded:

1.  With my Olympus voice recorder and then converted to MP3.
2.  Is a recording done with Logitech micro and Audacity (and also converted to mp3).

Wouldn't you agree that the Olympus recording (1) is better?
