what happened to me

For about 75% of this show, my voice was coming through very satisfactorily
(as far as I could tell), but then I suddenly disappeared.

So what happened?

My audio settings suddenly defaulted from what I had selected (output and
input via my headset) to input via line-in and output via my headset. I tried—
and kept trying—to restore my original selection, but couldn't, so I was
effectively cut off from participating in the show.

I did a lot of troubleshooting afterward—mostly moving applications (notably
Nicecast and Audio Hijack Pro) away from my hard disk to my supplemental
hard disk; my thinking was that a setting was wrong in one of these apps and
was causing the default problem, but that turned out not to be the case.

Later (and strictly by chance) I discovered that my headset was no longer
an option for input, but that my desktop mic (a Logitech AK 5370} was.
I now know how to work around the line-in default setting, but I still don't know
what caused this new behavior. I suspect, however, that it's happening because
of upgrades to my OS and QuckTime. Hmmm.

Anyway, thanks to Pam and Derrall for realizing that the show must go on
and proceeding without me. Pam and Derrall, you ROCK!

All the best—

D. O.
